Random Thought #3
One of my professors seemed to stress often that learning when to say no and get yourself out of a bad situation is a good lesson. I recently found myself in a bad situation related to me moving to NYC and signing an apartment. I had been dealing with all sorts of other issues all summer and sort of ignored the whole finding an apartment in NYC situation and left it on my roommates’ shoulders. They did all the work finding a place and ending up finding a nice unit in a not so nice area that happens to be an hour and a half commute away from where I’ll work. The main issue I had stressed to them all along is that I was worried about a long commute. They seemed to believe it was at most a 45-minute commute and convinced me so of it. Upon coming out to New York to see the place and check out the commute I realized that it most definitely was at least one hour but more like one hour fifteen. I literally told them NO and that I was out at the apartment signing. After much considerable thought I realized that I was totally screwing them over in addition to putting myself in a difficult position of finding an apartment within 3 weeks in NYC. I realized it was just too late to say NO… I should have realized the impending problem earlier on and said no before it was too late.
